Integrative Somatic Psychotherapy

Individual Therapy

Each of us are born with the need to feel safe, connected, and deeply alive. Experiences of overwhelm and pain can leave us unmoored, without a sense of "home" in ourselves or with others. My work over the last ten years has centered on supporting healing in these core places.

Through this work, I invite my clients into relationship with their whole being — mind, body, spirit — toward the recovery of resilience, power, and connection.

be easy. take your time. you are coming home. to yourself.

My Approach

My approach is informed by the lenses of neurobiology, parts work, and psychodynamic models. Each in their own way, these modalities support the development of a more interdependent relationship with self and others.

I view most struggles as understandable survival responses to experiences of loss, oppression, and life in a world of violence, fear, and scarcity.

I hold deep reverence for the intersecting identities each of us move within and recognize the impacts of systemic oppression on all aspects of well-being. I believe change unfolds as we work on ourselves and as we transform the systems we live in. I invite my clients to hold both as central aspects of their healing.

Above all, I honor your intuition, your lived wisdom, and your body’s innate capacity to heal with deep reverence and care.

Couples/Relationship Therapy

We’re asking more of our relationships than ever before, yet our ways of relating and practices for nurturing connection often lag behind. Every relationship deserves a dedicated space to grow or deepen these skills.

Using the lenses of neurobiology and attachment theory, I help couples understand the dynamics of their relationship in real time and get unstuck.

Sessions focus on conversation between partners. This helps couples grow their moment-to-moment awareness of the process of the relationship, rather than just the content of arguments. We’ll pay attention not just to the words you speak, but to the shifts in your facial expressions, body language, and presence in the space.

I draw from the theories of Drs. John and Julie Gottman (Gottman Method), Dr. Stan Tatkin (PACT), and Dr. Sue Johnson (EFT).

Everything you do in your relationship is foreplay.
— Dr. John Gottman

I’ve been working with couples/relationships since 2015. I have experience with new and seasoned relationships, couples renegotiating their relationship structure, and couples on the brink of divorce. I’ve worked with parenting transitions, sex and intimacy issues, betrayals, and impacts of substance use and trauma.

My practice is affirming to all gender, sexuality, and family/relationship expressions.

Scheduling & Fees

I typically start with an initial consult for new clients — this is a 15-20 minute “meet & greet” where we can get to know each other and explore your hopes for the work. You can also leave me voicemail or email me at bethanyberenscounseling@gmail.com.

Fees

  • 53-minute individual counseling - $150

  • 50-minute couples counseling - $175

  • 80-minute couples counseling - $225

Sliding scale: I offer a range of sliding scale rates in my practice for those who qualify. Please let me know in your initial inquiry if you’re interested in a sliding scale rate, and I’ll be glad to send the information to you.

Session Frequency and Potential Expected Costs

I ask all clients to begin with a series of weekly sessions to establish care and therapeutic goals. After this, we will assess together the frequency of sessions and duration of time working together that can best support your goals.

INSURANCE

I’m in the process of getting credentialed with insurance companies in NC, but as of now, I’m a private-pay, out-of-network provider only. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you can use these to help cover the cost of sessions.

To simplify the process of using out-of-network benefits, I partner with Thrizer, a payment application that handles out-of-network reimbursement for you. This eliminates the admin work on your end of verifying out-of-network benefits, submitting superbills, and wrangling with insurance companies for reimbursement.
